Youth and family running

Getting kids moving is a major focus of the MOTM committee members.  Our schools are tremendously supportive of encouraging active play and launched running clubs in the fall of 2011.  Clubs are organized outside of school hours, and are manned by elementary school teachers, staff, parents, and MOTM volunteers.  The running clubs for E.M. Yoder, Bradford and South Mebane Elementary launched full steam ahead in the fall of 2011 (130 participants).  All clubs are returning in 2012 and we’ve added Garrett Elementary to the pack a well – 2012 is going to be big!

MONTHLY FAMILY RUNS

Throughout the year, join Mebane on the Move, the Mebane Running Club and Mebane Walks for family runs that average around 2 miles in length.  We always meet at 8:30 at Mebane Espress in downtown Mebane. All ages and speeds are encouraged to join!  A note about our fun runs: these are not sanctioned events and they are not “supported” at the same level as a typical “race” – i.e. you will need to watch for traffic.  But, they are free and we hope you’ll have fun! Thanks for your participation!

Dates for the first half of 2012 are:

Jan 21st - Chilly Willy Fun Run
Kids are encouraged to wear funny mittens/hats. We’ll have cocoa w/marshmallows when we get back. Charm is a mitten.

Feb 11th – Cupid Shuffle Fun Run
Kids are encouraged to wear red and preferably hearts. Who knows, maybe we’ll have a little treat for all the running sweeties when you return?  Charm is a heart.

Mar 17th – Shamrock Fun Run
It’s all about being green. Wear something green and get ready for a green treat at the end!  Charm is a 4 leaf clover.

April 21st – April Showers Bring May Flowers.
This will be the final practice run for the Dogwood 5k.  Charm is an umbrella.

May date TBA – Run for the paws

Run with your favorite 4-legged friend!  We will be accepting donations of dog food to provide to needy animals in the area.  Charm is a paw print.
