In 2006 a group of ladies from the Mebane Woman’s Club sat down to discuss an idea for an annual event that would get members of our community to be more active. An energized and productive brainstorming session lead us to the inaugural Mebane on the Move Family Fitness Festival – a family activity day complete with 5K road race, health and fitness expo and free fitness classes. The event was designed as a fundraiser for the Mebane on the Move initiative which was established with the broad goals of increasing the health and wellness of our community. Over the next several years the event was completely revamped with the addition of more appealing and popular activities such as the addition of a 10K road race.
Over time, the initiative itself has taken off. The campaign was broadened to involve members of the community from many arenas including educators, health care professionals, business leaders and local citizens.
Today, our motivated group is working together to put ideas and projects into action in an ongoing effort to keep Mebane moving. Check out this video for a glimpse into our journey.
